The Fast Five De Tomaso Pantera Is Up For Grabs

With the recent debut of the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious movie franchise, items from previous Fast flicks have come up for sale once again. Items like this 1972 De Tomaso Pantera from Fast Five, which is now slated to cross the auction block at an upcoming Barrett-Jackson event.

Fast Five is considered by many to represent the high mark of the franchise, making its silver screen debut all the way back in 2011. The film starts with Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) undergoing a locomotive-based car heist, featuring machines like a Ford GT40 and a C2 Corvette Speedster. Before those cars had a chance to forcibly change hands, the Pantera was first removed from the train. This involved removing a section of the train car, bringing a modified ramp truck up alongside the moving train, and rolling the mid-engine sports cars down the ramp at high speed. You can watch the entire $25-million action sequence below.

While the De Tomaso Pantera in question is certainly not going to be considered a hero car by fans, it does have some relatively prominent screen time in arguably the best film in the series. According to the auction listing, the car was purchased from Universal Studios by the seller in 2013. The car has since undergone a restoration to bring it back to its on screen condition, and even retains the safety equipment installed during shooting. The car’s original Cleveland 351 V-8 still sits out back, complete with an Edelbrock intake and Carter carburetor setup. A five-speed manual gearbox puts power to the real wheels.

If you want a chance to take home a piece of Fast and Furious film history, this Pantera is slated to cross the auction block at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction, which runs from June 22-24. There is currently no reserve price attached to the car, but no estimate from Barrett-Jackson either. That’s all to say it might be more than you can afford, pal.
